Nearby Places to Visit: Some attendees plan a visit to the world famous Monterey Aquarium, or a trip to Roaring Camp Railroad. Most airlines offer flights at reduced rates for Saturday departure dates and some hotel rates are less on Saturday and Sunday (see hotels below). If you wish to go to both places, take the first train ride (11:00 am) and then go on to the Aquarium.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Click here to check out the sea otters, jelly fish, and the kelp aquarium. This is located about 90 minutes from San Jose, just a nice drive down to the ocean. Auto rental information is on hotel list below. To get driving directions to the Aquarium, enter the Aquarium address and the hotel address

Roaring Camp Railroad
This is a 90 minute trip up the Santa Cruz mountains through a virgin stand of redwood trees. Open rail cars allow you to see the trees as a restored small gauge steam locomotive (originally used for lumbering operations) takes you on a delightful tour through the world's tallest trees. Click here for information on the train ride. Auto rental information is on the hotel list below. This is about 45 minutes from any of the hotels listed below. Driving Directions: Take Highway 17 (the sign says 17/880 Santa Cruz) to the Mt. Hermon Rd. exit and drive 3.5 miles to Felton. At Felton, turn left on Graham Hill Road and drive for 1/2 mile to Roaring Camp. After the train ride, you can ask where the path is to the state forest (100 feet away). Get the path guide that tells about the trees (50 cents) in the gift shop. You can take a 20-30 minute walk and get up close and personal with the trees. The Train Schedule is here.
